I decided to write this packing list to
encourage hikers who, like us, don't have everything waterproof,
lightweight and quickdry, as it seems that you need all that from all
the other packing lists we have seen online. Well, we didn't have much
of this supergear nor money to buy it, but we survived and enjoyed the trail. We had a
pretty good weather, but I am sure we would be able to do this even if
it rained more. It's not so much about the equipment, it's also about
your attitude and stamina.
After packing all this, our packs weighted about 12 - 13 kg.
Clothing
-
hiking boots (those were good and waterproof, only a little bit smaller
than I would need - so it was essential to pack also enough of
band-aid)
- 4 short sleeved shirts
- long sleeved turtleneck shirt
- shorts
- long pants
- leggings for sleeping (bought in thrift shop just before we left - it was a good buy, I wasn't cold at night)
- 2 sweatshirts (one borrowed and I didn't even use it)
- waterproof jacket
- bandana (used it for my neck and for my head depending on the weather)
- light scarf
- underwear
-
2 pairs thick bamboo socks (quick buy just a day before and again a
very good buy - they stayed soft and didn't smell even after two days of
wearing in the boots)
- 3 pairs normal socks
- sandals (for the camp)
- swimsuit and towel (used only at Tsusiat Falls)
Other equipment (mostly split between the three of us)
- tent (very light, not very big, but at least it was warm with the three of us inside)
-
sleeping bag (borrowed, not exactly the hiking type, big and heavy, but
warm enough considering we didn't have any sleeping mats)
- headlamp (2 for 3 people)
- pocket knife (2 for 3 people)
- 20 m of a rope for hanging a bear bag (we didn't use it as at all the campsites were bear lockers)
- duct tape
- water purification drops (Sanosil)
- first aid kit
- toothpaste and toothbrush
- tea tree oil ointment (as an insect repelant and antiseptics)
- sunscreen
- toilet paper
- pencil and paper
- camera
- camping stove
- one propan fuel (220 g)
- 1 pot with lid, 2 plastic bowls, 3 spoons
- lighter
Food (all split between the three of us)
- 1.3 kg granola
- 1 can of condensed milk for the granola (not such a good idea because it leaked even if "closed" with the duct tape)
- 4 french breads
- 1 cheese dressing (for the bread)
- 1 strawbery jam (for the bread)
- 2 packs of English muffins
- 2 packs of crispbread
- 9 granola bars
- 2 chocolate bars
- 2 packs of cookies
- grape sugar candys
- multivitamine tablets to drink
- 4 water bottles (all together 7 litres)
Dinners (dehydrated packages for cooking):
- goulash soup with couscous
- pea soup with couscous
- rice with cheddar cheese and brocoli
- pasta with ham and cheese sauce
- pasta with chicken sauce
- goulash
